Installing CORE PC

These instructions are intended for new installations of CORE PC, if you already have CORE PC and are adding new computers to your network, please contact us for the correct instructions for your system, as you may need to install an earlier version.

If you are installing on a single PC only please go straight to installation process below.

If this is a new installation and you will be networking CORE PC i.e. installing CORE PC on more than one PC, you will need to configure a database server or a PC that will act as the database server.

If you would like this PC to act as the CORE PC database server follow the instructions below and choose the "Typical" install option.

If you would like to use your Windows Server as the database server you can configure manually by following these instructions and then follow the instructions below using the "Network Client" install option. You can also have CORE PC configure your Windows Server automatically by following the instructions below on your server and using the "Typical" install option, although this will also install the CORE PC client software on your server.

Installation Process

Ensure you are logged onto the computer with Administrator privileges.

Click to download the CORE PC installation program

1. Click the link above and choose "Save".

2. Once the download is complete, find the file you saved (probably in the Downloads folder).
Windows XP: double click the file to run it
Windows 7: right click on it and choose "run as administrator"

3. Accept the license agreement and click "Next" through all the setup screens. You will be prompted to choose "Typical" or "Network Client" installation type.
Choose "Typical" if this will be the only computer using CORE PC or if this will act as the server to which other computers using CORE PC will connect.
Choose "Network Client" if this computer will connect to another computer acting as the server.

4. Configure CORE PC
If you have chosen "Network Client":
Windows XP: Ensure you are logged onto the computer with Administrator privileges, find the CORE PC icon on your desktop and double click.
Windows 7: Find the CORE PC icon on your desktop and right click and choose "run as administrator".

Provide the correct connection information to connect to the CORE PC database server when prompted (you may need to ask you IT department for this information). If you setup the database server by following these instructions you can set the server name to computername\corepc (where computername is the name of the computer that is acting as the database server) and leaving all the other values as their defaults.

If you have chosen "Typical" install:
Windows XP: Ensure you are logged onto the computer with Administrator privileges, find the CORE PC icon on your desktop and double click, SQL Server will be installed, when this is complete, double click CORE PC again to configure the database.

Windows 7: Find the CORE PC icon on your desktop and right click and choose "run as administrator", SQL Server will be installed, when this is complete, right click CORE PC again and run as administrator again to configure the database.

Carefully note any error messages that appear. Providing the exact text of any error message will greatly assist the diagnosis and remedy of any issues.

Once CORE PC is completely setup you will be asked for license details, click Yes to enter your license details, you can request a license key by emailing the "product ID" that appears at the top of the license screen to support@coreims.co.uk along the name of your service.

If you chose the Typical install option above and would now like to configure this computer as a server to allow other computers using CORE PC to connect to it these instructions.
