This article outlines the scope and historical significance of the CORE system as used by psychological therapy services in the UK over the last few years as an audit and evaluation tool. IT also examines the role of CORE IMS Ltd in supporting the CORE system, and providing a training resourse and software to analyse the data produced by services using the paper forms.

Since CORE was launched five years ago, there’s been a steady growth in the number of services using our centralised support to help meet the challenges of introducing routine evaluation. This support has included implementation workshops, data scanning and reporting, benchmarking guides, clinical governance training, and the computerised CORE data management system - CORE-PC. With almost 200 services now using this latter package, we believe it’s time to introduce a new development phase to CORE that’s designed to help services to get the most from both the system itself, and the growing national pool of practice-based evidence that CORE is generating.
